Prof. M. T. Ansari

M. T. Ansari joined the Centre for Comparative Literature in 2004 and his current research interests include Cultural Studies, Minority Studies, Kerala Studies and World Literatures. He offers courses for postgraduate and research programmes and has supervised around 20
doctoral theses (submitted/ongoing) as well as more than 20 MPhil dissertations. Previously, he taught at the MS University of Baroda (Vadodara, Gujarat) from 2001 to 2004 and the SS University of Sanskrit (Kalady, Kerala) from 1998 to 2001. His PhD was from the English and Foreign Languages University (erstwhile CIEFL, Hyderabad) and MPhil was from the University of Calicut (Kerala). He was awarded a short-term visiting fellowship by the Committee on Southern Asian Studies, University of Chicago, and also visited the Institute of Global Studies at the University of Minnesota in 2004. He was a Fellow at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (Shimla, India) during 2014-2015. His major publications include 
Islam and Nationalism in India: South Indian Contexts (Routledge, 2016), Discourse, Democracy and Difference: Perspectives on Community, Politics and Culture(Kendriya Sahiya Akademi, 2010; co-edited), Malabar: Desheeyathayude Eda-padukal; Charithra-Sahitya Paadangal(Malabar: Nationalist Transactions; Historical and Literary Lessons; DC Books, 2008; Malayalam), and Secularism, Islam and Modernity: Selected Essays of Alam Khundmiri(Sage, 2001; edited). He has also published articles in English and Malayalam, as well as translations, in various journals and volumes. An edited volume Multilingualism and the Literary Culture of India (Kendriya Sahitya Akademi) is in the offing.
